What are the advantages of rock wool boards?

Rock wool board is an inorganic thermal insulation material made from natural rocks such as basalt and diabase through high-temperature melting and fibrosis treatment. With its excellent comprehensive performance, it is widely used in construction, industrial equipment, ships and other fields. Its core advantages can be unfolded from the following multiple dimensions:

1. Excellent thermal insulation performance, reducing energy consumption

The fiber structure of rock wool board is a three-dimensional network, with a large number of closed air layers inside. The thermal conductivity of air is extremely low (about 0.023W/(m · K)), so it can effectively block heat transfer and has a remarkable thermal insulation and heat preservation effect.

In the field of construction, when used for external wall insulation and roof insulation, it can significantly reduce the energy consumption of buildings for heating in winter and cooling in summer, which is in line with the requirements of the national "dual carbon" policy for building energy conservation (such as meeting the standard of an energy-saving rate of ≥65% for new buildings).

In the industrial field: Wrapped around equipment such as boilers, pipelines, and storage tanks, it can reduce heat loss (for example, insulation of industrial pipelines can keep the heat loss rate within 5%), improve the operational efficiency of equipment, and reduce energy waste.

Second, it features A-level non-combustibility, ensuring fire safety

As A typical inorganic non-metallic material, the fire resistance performance of rock wool board meets the A-level non-combustible standard stipulated in the national "Classification for Fire Performance of Building Materials and Products" (GB 8624-2012), which is the core advantage that distinguishes it from organic insulation materials such as polystyrene board (B1/B2 grade) and extruded board (B1/B2 grade)

When exposed to open flames or high temperatures, it will not burn, release toxic gases (such as formaldehyde, benzene substances), nor produce molten droplets. It can effectively delay the spread of fire, buying time for personnel evacuation and fire fighting.

It is especially suitable for high-rise buildings, hospitals, schools, shopping malls and other places with extremely high requirements for fire safety, reducing fire hazards.

Third, excellent sound insulation and noise reduction effects, improving environmental comfort

The porous fiber structure of rock wool board can play a role in "absorbing and buffering" sound waves, especially in blocking medium and high-frequency noises (such as traffic noise and equipment operation noise).

When used as a sound insulation layer for partition walls, ceilings or floors in buildings, it can increase the air sound insulation to over 40dB (the sound insulation of ordinary brick walls is about 30-35dB), effectively blocking neighborhood noise and outdoor traffic noise, and enhancing the comfort of living or working.

In the industrial and transportation sectors: When used as sound barriers in factory workshops and as sound insulation layers on the inner walls of subway tunnels, it can reduce noise pollution caused by equipment rumbling and train operation, meeting environmental protection noise emission standards.

4. Good chemical stability and durability, with a long service life

The main component of rock wool board is inorganic silicate, which has stable chemical properties and is not easily affected by environmental factors to age or deteriorate. Its service life can reach 20 to 30 years (organic insulation materials are usually 10 to 15 years)

Strong weather resistance: Long-term exposure to sunlight, rain, and high and low temperatures (-40℃ to 700℃) will not cause cracking, deformation, or powdering, and the insulation performance has a low decline rate (no more than 5% within 5 years).

Anti-corrosion and anti-insect: It does not undergo chemical reactions with acidic or alkaline substances (except for strong acidic solutions), nor is it eroded by mold or insects. There is no need for regular replacement and maintenance, reducing long-term usage costs.

Five. Lightweight and high strength, convenient and efficient construction

The density of rock wool board is usually between 100 and 200kg/m³, making it a lightweight material. Meanwhile, the interwoven structure between fibers endows it with certain mechanical strength (compressive strength ≥40kPa, tensile strength ≥15kPa).

Reduce building load: When used for external wall insulation, it will not significantly increase the self-weight of the wall (reducing the weight by more than 60% compared to traditional brick insulation layers), lowering the design pressure of the building structure, and is particularly suitable for energy-saving renovations of old buildings.

Flexible construction: Rock wool boards can be cut into different sizes and thicknesses as required (commonly 20-100mm), and can be quickly installed with special adhesives and anchor fasteners. The construction efficiency is about 30% higher than that of traditional insulation materials, and it has low requirements for the construction environment (construction can be carried out at normal temperature).

Six. Green and environmentally friendly, meeting the requirements of sustainable development

Renewable raw materials: The main raw materials are natural rocks such as basalt, which are abundant in reserves, and no non-renewable resources (such as petroleum derivatives) are used in the production process.

No pollutant release: No toxic waste gas or wastewater is discharged during production. The product itself does not contain harmful substances such as formaldehyde and VOCs. After use, it can be recycled and reused (crushed to be used as roadbed filling material or raw material for recycled rock wool), meeting environmental protection requirements.
